Shen Qingzhi was an important veteran of the Liu Song Dynasty. He was born in Wukang, Wuxing, Eastern Jin Dynasty (now Xideqing, Zhejiang Province) in 386 AD. When he was young, he fought against Sun En's rebel army of the Five Dou Mi Dao. Later, he worked as a farmer in his hometown until he was 30 years old and was appreciated by General Zhao Lunzhi, becoming a soldier. Shen Qingzhi was good at arranging formations and training troops, and he suppressed seven rebellions by barbarians. In March 453 AD, Crown Prince Liu Shao launched a rebellion, killed Emperor Wen Liu Yilong, and wrote to Shen Qingzhi, hoping that he would participate. However, Shen Qingzhi firmly refused and immediately sent troops to help Emperor Wen's other son Liu Jun suppress the rebellion and stabilize the political situation. Shen Qingzhi was a capable general who suppressed many rebellions launched by people such as Lu Shuang, Zang Zhi, Liu Dan, Liu Yuanjing, and Liu Yigong, playing a crucial role in stabilizing the Liu Song Dynasty.
