Li Bai, one of the most outstanding poets in Chinese literary history, lived in the Tang Dynasty. His poems were full of bold, uninhibited styles and folk characteristics, leaving a rich cultural heritage. However, his life also experienced many twists and turns.

At the age of 57, Li Bai wrote a series of songs for Yong Wang's eastern tour in Yong Wang's military camp, expressing his desire to contribute to the country. However, Yong Wang's military operation failed, and Li Bai was imprisoned as a result. Fortunately, he was rescued and became Song Ruosi's aide, helping him write documents. Afterwards, he followed Song Ruosi to Wuchang. Song Ruosi valued Li Bai highly and recommended him to the court, hoping that he could be reused. However, Song Ruosi was punished for participating in Yong Wang's eastern tour, which also implicated Li Bai.

At the age of 58, Li Bai left Xunyang and began a long period of wandering. He traveled on the road, suffering from hardships and tribulations, and entered the Three Gorges in winter. After the court issued a general amnesty, he was freed and traveled downstream along the Yangtze River, writing the famous "Early Morning Departure from Baidi City" to express his mood at that time. After arriving in Jiangxia, he visited friends and enjoyed the moon with Jia Zhi on a boat to relieve his feelings. Afterwards, he returned to Xuancheng and Jinling, revisiting his old places. He often traveled between the two places, relying on others to survive.

In his sixties, Li Bai returned to Jinling because of illness, but his life had become very difficult. He was forced to seek refuge with his relative Li Yangbing. A year later, Li Bai's illness worsened, and while lying on his sickbed, Li Yangbing took his manuscript from him, which was later known as "Song of the Dying Man", and then he passed away.

There are many theories about the cause of Li Bai's death. One theory is that he died of excessive drinking in Xuancheng. Another theory is that he died in Dangtu the following year because he was still fighting and killing enemies for the country despite his advanced age and illness. There is also a theory that he drowned in a river. Although the theories vary, they are all related to his experience of exile.
