The Wagang Rebellion was a famous peasant rebellion in the late Tang Dynasty, which occurred between 875 AD and 884 AD. There were many leaders in this rebellion, but the most famous one was Li Mi.

Li Mi, styled Zhongming, was a native of Shaanxi in the late Tang Dynasty. He was born into a poor family and had worked as a scholar and thief before joining the Huangchao Rebellion Army as a general. After the failure of the Huangchao Rebellion, Li Mi fled to Henan and began organizing his own forces to resist.

In 875 AD, Li Mi launched his first rebellion in Henan, capturing several nearby counties and declaring himself as the Emperor, establishing a small court centered on himself. Although the army of this small court was not large, it was very organized and disciplined, and quickly gained the support of many people.

In order to expand his influence, Li Mi began to move eastward and attack the Tang capital, Chang'an. Over the course of a decade-long war, Li Mi and his army experienced numerous victories and defeats, but ultimately succeeded in capturing Chang'an.

However, after the capture of Chang'an, Li Mi did not immediately proclaim himself as Emperor, but continued to negotiate with the Tang Dynasty. He hoped to end the war through peaceful means instead of launching another rebellion. However, the Tang government did not accept his demands and instead sent troops to suppress his rebellion.

Finally, Li Mi sacrificed himself in battle, but his rebellion had a profound impact on the Tang Dynasty. His rebel army not only attacked the ruling class of the Tang Dynasty, but also promoted social change and ethnic integration in the late Tang Dynasty. Therefore, Li Mi is known as "one of the greatest leaders of peasant rebellions in Chinese history".
